Cherish People Not Things

My husband made a comment that was profound and sadly true about how people today care more about material things than each other. Although the pandemic reminded us of how inter-connected and dependent we all are, marketing and social media keep pushing us away from people and towards self-indulgence, consumerism, and criticizing others. Then we wonder why so many people feel hollow or hurt inside.

In the wise words of the Dalai Lama, “Interdependence is a fundamental law of nature. Even tiny insects survive by mutual cooperation based in innate recognition of their interconnectedness. It is because our own human existence is so dependent on the help of others that our need for love lies at the very foundation of our existence. Therefore we need a genuine sense of responsibility and a sincere concern for the welfare of others.”

When we love and receive love back, there is a sense of completion, fulfillment, and purpose in life. When was the last time you showed or received love?
