Every Day is a New Day

“The past is history. The future is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it called the present.” Although a quote of uncertain origin, this concept conveys a powerful message of being present and living in the moment. We can’t change the past. We don’t know what lies in the future, but we can shape what it will look like today. If we treat every day that we wake as a new beginning and another chance at life, then nothing is impossible.

“Old” is relative to our mind, attitude, and heart. According to a Scientific American article, “…About 330 billion cells are replaced daily, equivalent to about 1 percent of all our cells. In 80 to 100 days, 30 trillion will have replenished—the equivalent of a new you.” Our cells and therefore body is constantly renewing itself.

Embrace that feeling and shift our attitude each day to beginning anew as if were New Year’s Day. (Not the I’m hung over from a party type of New Year’s day, but a more spiritual one.) Here is a video we made during covid to explain the Japanese view of New Year. Hatsumode "First Shrine Visit of the New Year" Philosophy - Konko Church of Portland
