Destiny Shifts
When the recession hit it was announced our entire center (the smaller of the two) was going to be closed and all of us laid off. I was only three months in as an admin so although it was an ideal one-story building with office windows opening to a beautiful courtyard, it wasn’t so hard for me to move on. However, for many of the therapists who had worked there for years or most of their lives, it was a devastating loss for them and the children they worked with. Sometimes they just moped around not doing anything. The mood was quite dim and getting darker.
A change in energy was definitely needed. Remembering my father’s words about how “destiny shifts” when we pray, I incorporated the idea of the Law of Attraction to try and reintroduce hope and opportunity into their thoughts symbolized by the rainbow. So, I brought in a large wooden build-a-marble-tower maze set we had for our kids, and left the loose pieces piled on the lobby table with this printed note by its side and a sticky note about how our life was like the marble on its journey of twists and turns. They had time to contemplate quietly on their own while building towers to roll the marble down. It was amazing therapy for therapists, some of them were actually smiling as they played.
Just like how we’re taught when we learn to drive that our body (and therefore the wheel and car) naturally follow the direction of our head and eyes, our lives often follow the direction of our hearts. To keep your heart from spiraling down, keep your chin up, believe in yourself, and definitely ask for help before you think you need it.
